    Presentation Overview

I made a few hundred million.... I lost a few hundred million

Our last Venture Finance SIG of 2005 will explore the human side of entrepreneurship and raising capital and may even get you started on those 2006 New Year's Resolutions.

    “I made a few hundred million . . . I lost a few hundred million.”

These are the first words in Wayne McVicker's book Starting Something, an Entrepreneur's Tale of Control, Confrontation & Corporate Culture. Wayne founded Neoforma, which grew from one employee in 1996 to over 230 by its IPO in January, 2000 and accidentally became a dotcom darling and eventually a $3 billion public company. The book chronicles a five-year personal and corporate roller-coaster ride that ended in 2001 with the author stepping aside from the company he co-founded.

Wayne will lead an interactive discussion on the Seven States in the Development of a Corporate Culture, with emphasis on how this can impact both early and later stage funding, as well as a start-ups ultimate success or failure. We will also be giving away a few copies of Wayne's fascinating book.

Wayne McVicker is an architect, writer, speaker, mentor and entrepreneur. He is co-founder and president of Attainia, a healthcare software company formed in 2001. In 2004 he founded Ravel Media, a publisher and co-op of executive talent created to promote the understanding and betterment of corporate culture. He has 25 years of experience in the design, health care, and IT industries. McVicker’s five-year-long wild ride as co-founder (in 1996), board member, and president of Neoforma (NASDAQ: NEOF, first IPO of 2000, 16th largest gain in history, current annual revenue~$80M) is the basis for his recent multiple award-winning book, Starting Something.
