Java SIG: Effective Java Reloaded and IntelliJ IDEA
The Monthly Meeting of the Java SIG
Please join us Tuesday, June 6th, for two exciting and insightful presentations. Josh Bloch will present "Effective Java Reloaded," a sneak peak at the next edition of his blockbuster best practices Bible "Effective Java Programming Language Guide." If time permits, Josh will talk about Java at Google. After a short break, Etienne Studer will present "IntelliJ IDEA."
Prizes will be given away including "IntelliJ IDEA in Action " books.
Effective Java Reloaded
It has been five years since Effective Java was released. The Java platform has evolved, and we've learned more about how to use it to best effect. This session covers new material that will be added to the second edition of Effective Java. This talk, which went over well at JavaOne, includes several novel patterns.
Josh Bloch, Chief Java Architect, Google, Inc.
Joshua Bloch was previously a Distinguished Engineer at Sun Microsystems. He wrote the bestselling book "Effective Java" (Addison-Wesley, 2001), winner of the 2002 Jolt Award. He led the design and implementation of numerous award-winning Java platform features, including the JDK 5.0 language enhancements and the Java Collections Framework. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Carnegie-Mellon University and a B.S. in Computer Science from Columbia.
IDEA is an IDE that allows code-centric developers to be very productive while keeping up their pleasure of writing software. In this presentation, an IDEA enthusiast will show how IDEA assists developers in unobtrusive but intelligent ways throughout the entire software development cycle. Some of the highlights of IDEA will be demonstrated, including intelligent code assistance, refactoring support, code analysis, and the plugin api. A glimpse of innovative new features in the upcoming IDEA 6 release will be given, too.
Etienne Studer is a senior software developer at Navis LLC, where he is in charge of the RIA framework for Navis' next-generation products. Etienne became IDEA-infected in 2001 and has since experienced and followed the evolution of IDEA very closely, developing enterprise applications in IDEA, participating in the IDEA community, as well as writing plugins for IDEA.
