    About the Speaker

JoMei Chang, Chairman and CEO, Qilinsoft

A widely recognized entrepreneur and inventor, Dr. JoMei Chang has been profiled in major publications for her business leadership. Forbes called her “a woman of substance”. Fortune magazine named Dr. Chang one of the new, leading “eCEOs”. BusinessWeek magazine named her an Entrepreneur of the Year for 2000.

Over the past 30 years, JoMei has transformed herself and the industries she touches every 10 years.

In 1974, Dr. Chang arrived in the United States as a graduate student at Purdue University living on a scholarship of $125 per month. During the next 10 years, she became the first woman researcher in Computer Science at the AT&T Bell Laboratories. There, she invented and patented the first reliable multicast protocol, and her work set the research agenda in this important area for the next 20 years.

Starting in 1984, she became a business entrepreneur. At Teknekron Software Systems (now TIBCO), a company she helped found, Dr. Chang pioneered the first digital Trader Workstation, which revolutionized Wall Street information systems.

In 1994, she founded Vitria Technology to pioneer integration based on Business Process Management. This revolutionary approach to integration has impacted many industries from Manufacturing to Telco to Financial Services. She led Vitria into IPO in 1999, which was one of the most successful technology IPOs that year.

In 2004, Dr. Chang decided to focus on the China market. She believes in taking the best talents and training them with western process and management. Her objective is not only commercial success, but also to turn the term “Made in China” into a common phrase in the IT world representing “High Innovation” and “High Quality”. She founded QilinSoft (China) with headquarters in Beijing to introduce integration technology to the China market. Today, Qilinsoft has over 100 employees, and key customers including China Construction Bank, Haier, and various telecom companies.

Dr. Chang holds a B.S. in Computer Science from National ChiaoTung University in Taiwan, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering on Database Management Systems from Purdue University.
