Business Intelligence SIG: Satisfying the Data Needs of the Business
The Monthly Meeting of the Business Intelligence SIG
There is no lack of consultants who will offer to build you a data warehouse. But building a data warehouse is not the goal. Satisfying the data needs of the business is the goal. Come enjoy a presentation about how a small marketing team that went about getting the data needed to support Microsoft's MSN TV 2 product (the Microsoft remake of WebTV). The team built a small dimensional data warehouse (in the spirit of Ralph Kimball) to answer both immediate business questions and to be an extensible platform for future data needs. This presentation will give an overview of what the team did right, did wrong nd learned over the course of a year while attaining their goal e.g. gathering the business requirements, analyzing source systems, creating the ETL, and finally building reports.
