National Healthcare Portal Using Web Services

Under the vision of "A single point of access to national healthcare", the united counties of Denmark, together with the ministry of health, launched a health portal project. The portal will give providers access to national registers, hospital healthcare systems, and even General Practitioner's systems nationally. Additionally it will be used for selfcare for citizens, and data systems for healthcare professionals.

On a system2system level all Web services in the healthcare network must be well-documented and have a semantic definition. Denmark has aprx. 5 million citizens.

Integration of a huge number of heterogenous systems calls for Web services, and a number of prerequisites regarding networking, standards, healthcare semantics etc. This presentation will sketch the national Danish IT-setup, and discuss the considerations behind the design choices, as well as challenges regarding integration of the various systems. Henrik will wrap also provide an overview of the techniques applied in the architecture to give scalability in the number of Web services over time.

Rapid Development of Java based SOAs

With the advent of service oriented architectures and web services, Java enterprise developers are faced with yet another challenge: How to design an enterprise system so that it exposes internal business logic as web services, while building upon the proven three-tier design practices, and keeping the extra effort at a minimum.

Based on real world experience gained from designing a J2EE based SOA, attribute oriented code generation using XDoclet will be introduced as a means to keep engineers focused on developing the right business logic and data model rather than improving the system infrastructure. The presentation will give an architectural overview of the real world system, while focusing on the web services aspects.

    About the Presenters

    Henrik Ibsen

Henrik has a strong c++ developer background. He has since moved down to architect, further down to management.Unsatisfied with the IT-skills, he managed to fall even further to sales. He's now trying to work his way back up again.

Henrik has spent the past 18 months developing an architectural vision around the Danish National Health Portal. He's spent the past 6 months developing specifications and handling negotiations regarding all data services and health providers for the portal.

    Kaare Kjelstroem

Kaare is actively involved in development on the Trifork J2EE Application Server, and recently served as technical architect and developer on the Danish National Health Portal, designing and implementing the PKI based security infrastructure.

Before joining Trifork, Kaare lived in the Bay Area where he worked for a number of now sadly defunct startups in the areas of E-Business Process Automation, Web Services Management, and J2EE Application Server Appliances. Kaare holds a B.S. and an M.S. in Computer Science from Aarhus University in Denmark.
