    Bay Partners: Mike Shwe
As an Entrepreneur in Residence at Bay Partners, Mike Shwe focuses on enterprise software. Mike joined Bay after a three year engagement at Kana Communications, where he managed several software development efforts on both the platform and application sides of the company. Kana brought Mike on board to create artificial intelligence products to automate how companies manage relationships with their customers. He recruited a talented team of artificial intelligence experts and software engineers to deliver a messaging automation product using rule-based logic and Bayesian networks. At Kana, Mike was also responsible for the company's patent strategy, leading the patent writing and filing for all of the patents from the original Kana team.

Prior to Kana, Mike was a program manager at Knowledge Industries, where he guided software development of its commercial Bayesian network modeling package; developed integrations for Ricoh and Microsoft; and managed large research contracts with ARPA, NIST, and the Army. Before Knowledge Industries, Mike was a software engineer at Ameritech Knowledge Data Systems, developing a system for automating medical alerts in a clinical data repository product.

Mike received his Bachelor's degree at Stanford University in Symbolic Systems with Departmental Honors and University Distinction. Mike also received a Master of Science degree in Medical Informatics at Stanford. As a result of his work in medical informatics at Stanford and his subsequent AI research at Knowledge Industries, he has presented tutorials at AI conferences and published in numerous conferences and journals.
