Windows SIG: Improve Performance & Scalability w/.NET & Grid Computing

The concept of distributed computing has been around nearly as long as networks have existed, but parallel programming techniques remain mysterious and difficult. As Service Oriented Architectures become more common, more applications need the ability to scale and the difficulties involved in parallel programming become more important. Using multithreading techniques for scalability is complicated, expensive, and, ultimately, limited by hardware.
Utilizing Object Oriented Programming for Grid and the concepts of grid computing, performance and scaling issues can be addressed using familiar programming models--in .NET, using .NET techniques. Developers can enhance existing object oriented architectures to run on a grid without employing new programming models. Scalability issues can then be handled easily - simply extend the grid by adding more servers or even desktops.
This presentation will start with an overview of the concepts of grid computing and, using Visual Studio 2005, build several grid-enabled applications. From there, we'll take on the more complicated task of grid-enabling some existing apps. In addition, we'll tackle common issues that can occur when deploying a grid on Windows machines.
About the Presenter
Dan Ciruli is an experienced software designer and developer with thirteen years experience developing commercial Windows applications. He has been involved with all aspects of product design, development, customer implementation, and support. He is currently the Product Manager at Digipede Technologies, a vendor of distributed computing products for the Windows platform.
