Dale E. Smith, Vice Consul, Specialist – IT, Electronics & Communications at the British Consulate General (USA office)
Dale Smith is Vice Consul – Sector Specialist, responsible for information technology, electronics and communications sectors in the Western United States. He is a career corporate/business development professional who has spent the bulk of the last ten years developing strategic growth opportunities in information technology and communications-related industries. Based in the British Consulate General San Francisco, he supports the United Kingdom’s trade development and inward investment organizations to achieve their growth objectives in each of the sectors he covers.
Prior to joining the Consulate, he worked as an independent consultant and editor of an Internet thought leadership newsletter focused on opportunities and strategies for leveraging Internet business models and Web services to achieve enterprise growth and development objectives.
From 1996 to 2001, he was Group Manager, Business Development with Cisco Systems where he led technology investment, strategic alliances and market development initiatives in the areas of broadband switching, optical transport and wireless Internet infrastructure. During this time he authored and co-authored articles on broadband wireless topics, including – International Standards and Global LMDS Technology Development (Winter, 1999) and Technology Imperatives for the Broadband Wireless Service Provider (Spring, 1999).
Prior to Cisco Systems (1992 – 1996), he was Director of Business Development for BellSouth Mobile Data where he led formation of product/technology development partnerships and systems integration alliances to secure competitive market positioning and accelerate demand for wireless data applications and services.
Dale holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from the University of Missouri - Rolla and a Master of Business dministration (MBA) degree from the University of San Francisco’s McLaren School of Business.
