    Presentation Overview

The OASIS SAML and WSS Standards

The SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language) standard was developed to enable exchange of user information among security systems from different vendors. I will cover the history and status of the standard, the SAML assertion format, the SAML request-response protocol, the SAML SOAP-HTTP binding, and the Web SSO profiles that enable single signon between enterprises with different security systems.

The Web Services Security (WSS) standard under development will specify SOAP extensions to provide message integrity, confidentiality, and authentication for web services. I will cover the history and status of the standard, the format of the WSSE Security SOAP header element, and the profiles for username, Kerberos, SAML, X509, XrML, and XCBF tokens within the Security element.
