Ruby SIG: Kickoff Meeting: Tim Burks will present RubyCocoa
The Monthly Meeting of the Ruby SIG
Tim Burks will present RubyCocoa
Tim Burks will present RubyCocoa, an open-source bridge that makes it easy to mix code written in Ruby and Objective-C. This gives Ruby programmers access to Cocoa, Apple's rich user interface and application programming framework.
We'll start by looking at a sample Cocoa application built with Objective-C and Interface Builder and then see it rewritten completely in Ruby. Next we'll look at some elements of Ruby and the Objective-C runtime environment and see how they allow RubyCocoa application developers to easily mix Ruby and Objective-C. After that, we'll review a range of examples that show how much Ruby and Cocoa have to offer each other. Then we'll conclude with some current limitations and pointers to more information.
