    Come join our expert panel for an enlightening and spirited presentation on the nuances of open source licensing while enjoying some wonderful wine and hors d'oeuvres.



    The commercialization of open source is happening at a tremendous pace as open source solutions continues to mature, resulting in rapid adoption by both small and large users worldwide.



    A key component in every company's effort to build a business model around an open source offering is licensing. Whether you're trying to build a company based primarily upon services or a combination of services and software licensing, selecting the right single or combination of licenses is one of the most important and challenging things to do. This months Open Source SIG will explore the key charecteristics of open source licenses, important steps in selecting a license and the impact on both proprietary and open source businesses. This months panel includes industry experts:





     

    Presenters:

    Brian Wolf

    Brian Wolf is an in-house attorney supporting Avaya’s product and services businesses. Brian has managed open source compliance for Avaya for the past 3 ½ years. His areas of expertise also include software and technology licensing and negotiating inbound and outbound technology-related transactions, including OEM, reseller, strategic alliance and customer agreements. Avaya Inc. (NYSE:AV) is a leading global provider of business communications applications, and systems and services. Brian holds a B.A. degree from the University of Texas at Austin, an M.A. degree from the Annenberg School for Communications, University of Southern California, and a J.D. degree from Loyola Law School, Loyola Marymount University.

     

    Jason B. Wacha

    Jason B. Wacha, Vice President, Corp. Affairs; General Counsel; Corp. Secretary Recognized by the San Francisco Daily Journal as one of the country's preeminent experts on open source software licensing, and named as a Northern California Super Lawyer for 2006, Jason supervises MontaVista Software's worldwide legal and corporate policies and practices, and develops and implements the company?s intellectual property strategy.

     

    Ms. Lee

    Vicki Lee, DLA Piper, Partner concentrates in general business counseling; private and venture financing; start-up companies; strategic intellectual property counseling; technology transfer; document retention policies; and distribution and licensing agreements. Vicki has worked with numerous open source companies and assisted Sun Microsystems, Inc. in open sourcing the Solaris operating system.
