    Presentation Overview:

Delivering Enterprise IT Management Applications with Open Source

Leading IT management products like IBM Tivoli, CA UniCenter, HP OpenView and BMC Patrol historically been a safe, yet expensive, choice for enterprise networks, with reputations as overly complex and difficult to deploy and manage. Now the $7B worldwide software category may be in store for a shake up by enterprise-class open source IT management solutions. Projects such as Nagios and MRTG have been downloaded, tested and deployed hundreds of thousands of times, with benefits to users such as:

    • Lower total cost of ownership
    • Reduced application complexity
    • Less management overhead
    • Shorter learning curve
    • Simpler customization to particular IT environments

GroundWork Open Source Solutions integrates open source components like Nagios and others into a certified and supported application aimed at enterprise customers. What challenges did GroundWork face in building and marketing a mixed source application? Hear an experienced CTO present the lessons learned. Spend time with Thomas Stocking as he answers questions and discusses:

    • How to develop commercially marketed applications that include open source components
    • Meeting customer expectations as a commercial open source vendor
    • Packaging and delivering quality enterprise IT applications
    • Open source differentiators of interest to IT management purchasers
    • Working cooperatively and productively with members of the open source community
