    Presentation Overview

    Please join Eric Benhamou, Chairman and CEO of Benhamou Global Ventures and Chairman of the Board of 3Com and palmOne, in conversation with renowned journalist Dan Gillmor at the next SDFORUM INTERNATIONAL SIG. The topic of the discussion will be Redefining Technology Companies in the 21st Century. Under the umbrella of this topic, Dan will ask Eric his views on subjects ranging from what’s coming next in technology innovation, to off-shoring and outsourcing, and from corporate social responsibility to corporate governance.


    About the Speakers

    Eric Benhamou,Chairman and CEO, Benhamou Global Ventures

    Eric Benhamou is chairman and CEO of Benhamou Global Ventures, LLC. Benhamou Global Ventures, started in 2003, invests and plays an active role in innovative high tech firms throughout the world. Mr. Benhamou is also the chairman of the board of directors of 3Com Corporation and palmOne. He served as chief executive officer of Palm Inc. from October 2001 until October 2003. Benhamou served as chief executive officer of 3Com Corporation from September 1990 until December 31, 2000. Previously, he held a variety of senior management positions at 3Com.

    In 1981, Mr. Benhamou co-founded Bridge Communications, an early networking pioneer, and was vice president of engineering until its merger with 3Com in 1987.

    In 2003, Mr. Benhamou was appointed to the Joint High Level Advisory Panel of the U.S.- Israel Science and Technology Commission by U.S. Commerce Secretary Donald Evans. He currently serves as chairman of the board of Cypress Semiconductor and as a member of the board of RealNetworks, Inc and of Silicon Valley Bancshares. He serves on the board of directors of several privately held companies, and serves on the board of the New America Foundation, a Washington DC-based think tank. Mr. Benhamou serves on the executive committee of TechNet and of the Computer Science and Telecommunications Board (CSTB). He is on the Board of INSEAD (business school in Fontainbleau, France and Singapore) Global Ventures and Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship and Family Enterprise at INSEAD.

    He is the chairman of the Israel Venture Network, a venture philanthropy organization for a stronger Israeli society.

    Dan Gillmor, Journalist and author We the Media: Grassroots Journalism by the People, for the People, and

    Dan Gillmor, founder of Grassroots Media Inc., is working on a project to encourage and enable more citizen-based media. This weblog is devoted to the discussion of the issues facing grassroots journalism as it grows into an important force in society.

    Dan is author of We the Media: Grassroots Journalism By the People, For the People, a 2004 book that is widely credited as the first comprehensive look at way the collision of technology and journalism is transforming the media landscape.

    From 1994-2004, Dan was a columnist at the San Jose Mercury News, Silicon Valley's daily newspaper, and wrote a weblog for He joined the Mercury News after six years with the Detroit Free Press. Before that, he was with the Kansas City Times and several newspapers in Vermont.

    A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Vermont, Dan received a Herbert Davenport fellowship in 1982 for economics and business reporting at the University of Missouri School of Journalism. During the 1986-87 academic year he was a journalism fellow at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he studied history, political theory and economics. He has won or shared in several regional and national journalism awards.

    Before becoming a journalist he played music professionally for seven years.
