Description

  • Monthly Meeting of the Bioinformatics SIG

PLEASE NOTE: THE APRIL MEETING HAS BEEN CANCELLED!

Please visit www.sdforum.org/sigs/bioinfo for further details on our next meeting. Dr. Schilling will be rescheduling in order to make the presentation originally planned for April 27th.

    Presentation Overview

Systems biology is rapidly emerging as a central research paradigm for the integrated analysis of cellular function. At the core of this paradigm is the need to develop computer models of metabolism and the regulation of metabolic processes. These models hold the potential to be catalysts for a new era of more efficient 'model-driven' biological discovery. This presentation will highlight the development and implementation of genome-scale microbial models of metabolism that are being currently applied to guide research and development efforts in areas such as bioprocessing/fermentation, bioremediation, bioelectricity, and antimicrobial drug discovery.

    About the Presenter

    Christophe H. Schilling, Ph.D.

Dr. Schilling is the cofounder, President & CTO of Genomatica, a leader in systems biology. He holds a B.S.E. degree in Biomedical Engineering and Genetics from Duke University, and received his doctorate degree in Bioengineering at UCSD under Prof. Bernhard Palsson. He was featured in the February 2001 edition of Genome Technology as one of sixteen "up and comers" who are predicted to significantly contribute to the development of the genome. Dr. Schilling has also recently been selected to the Technology Review TR100 as one of the top young global innovators under age 35.
