Rakesh, with over 13 years of venture capital experience, has been instrumental in establishing Docomo Capital in Silicon Valley and directing investments from a $100m fund into a portfolio of 26 companies over the past 8 years.
Prior to Docomo, Rakesh was a Partner at Reed Elsevier Ventures where he established the U.S. office for the London-based media company’s strategic venture operation focused on business information services, data management, business intelligence and enterprise software. Before Reed Elsevier Ventures, Rakesh was a General Partner at Sprout Group in Menlo Park.
Prior to his career as a VC, Rakesh was a leading senior equity analyst at Goldman Sachs in New York, and at Hambrecht & Quist in San Francisco, where he did pioneering work in mobile/wireless, Internet and software sectors.
In senior operating roles prior to becoming an analyst, Rakesh was worldwide director of marketing and business development at AT&T, and held pivotal sales and product management positions at Hewlett-Packard and Intel.
Rakesh received a BSEE/CS with distinction from the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi, India; an MS from Stony Brook University, New York, and an MBA (Dean's Scholar) in finance from the Wharton School.
Rakesh is a long time Charter member of TiE, Silicon Valley’s premier entrepreneurial organization. Rakesh is an avid supporter of several charitable organizations including American India Foundation, Child Advocates, and the South Asian Heart Center.
