Matt Bowman is a writer and cofounder of EdSurge, an information resource for people in education technology.
Matt joined Teach For America in 2002, and later taught writing in KIPP Bayview Academy in San Francisco. In 2006, teaching close to Silicon Valley and sensing the potential for technology to transform the education system, he immersed himself in the world of venture-backed technology. He became the managing editor of AlwaysOn and spent the next 5 years at the nexus of technology innovation, writing about emerging technology and organizing events for tech media companies including Vator.tv and VentureBeat.
In late 2010, Matt helped launched two information hubs with the goal of shifting Silicon Valley investment and talent to education: Higher Ed Live, a weekly web show aimed at university officials interested in technology, and EdSurge.
In 2011, he joined Seton Education Partners to help launch the Phaedrus Inititative, a national network of inner-city catholic blended schools, and became one of the country's first blended-learning managers at Mission Dolores Academy.
Throughout his career, Matt has remained immersed in k-12 education, running a monthly character-development seminar and two summer leadership programs for high schoolers in Northern California.
