    Marketing Yourself to a Roomful of Strangers

    Face-to-face networking is a must for uncovering leads, getting a job, or increasing your profile in your profession. Networking opportunities are everywhere: conferences, classes and seminars, professional meetings......even on the train or at the airport. But does the fear of "putting yourself out there" keep you from making the contacts that might lead to your next big opportunity?

    You're not alone. Most of us are not born with a natural ability to use "face time" effectively or comfortably, and we have to work to develop networking skills. But even the shyest introvert can become adept at "working a room", given time, practice, and a few guidelines and techniques.

    In this session, you'll learn some simple and effective ways to improve your networking skills, including important pre-planning techniques, "in the room" skills, and follow-up activities with key contacts. Forget your negative concepts of networking, such as trying to sell yourself to others. You will learn a new mindset that will help you set meaningful goals for each event, and reduce your anxieties about meeting strangers. You'll make better use of your opportunities, and you'll learn how to build long-term relationships for mutual success.


    About the Presenter

    Carol Carson,

    M.Ed., is the Director of the Silicon Valley Office for HROneChoice, an international B2B portal partnership for Human Resources. She will be launching the Commonwealth Club's Career Club for Silicon Valley on July 15, 2002. As Program Chair, Carol will invite experts in careers, job searching, and the economy to share their views with members and non-members in an open forum at the San Jose Club.

    Carol has extensive experience in the design and delivery of training programs affecting all phases of corporate life cycles, from start-up to fast growth, from mature to downsizing. Her mission is to help the company and the employee capitalize on strategic planning and goal alignment for personal and organizational success. Carol's programs target management and leadership development, career success, team building, organizational transition, career coaching, communications, and selection/retention.
