Marketing SIG: Developer &Technology marketing at SUN Microsystems
Monthly Marketing SIG Meeting
Matt Thompson, Director of Technology Outreach, Sun Microsystems
Sun's software systems, including the Java Enterprise System and the Java Desktop System, are at the core of Sun's software strategy. These systems encompass a number of capabilities that are traditionally marketed individually within the marketplace, while also are part of a larger initiative to market the software "systems" concept to Sun's customers. In addition, driving adoption of both the components of these systems and the "systems concept" to developers worldwide is critical to the eventual success of these systems. As such, this is a critical and integral part of Sun's overall developer and technology marketing strategy. This talk will focus on some real world examples of the challenges and successes of this strategy as it has been implemented over the last 18 months.
As Director of Technology Outreach, Matt Thompson leads Sun's technology evangelism efforts world wide. His team focuses on educating and enabling the worldwide developer community to easily adopt Sun's emerging technologies like the Java Enterprise System, the Java Desktop System, and Sun's secure mobility platform. Matt's 15 years of experience includes the software engineering of development environments, productivity tools, and object-oriented frameworks. Today, Matt spends most of his time focusing on delivering Sun's technology strategy to developers worldwide. Matt first started at Sun in 1988 and after several years "outside" at Taligent and General Magic he returned to Sun in 1997.
