    SDForum in partnership with SAP will host an evening focused on the state of the art in virtualization.  IDC's John Humphreys will lead a panel discussion with the Chief Technology Officers from SAP, Citrix, 3Leaf Systems and Lefthand Networks about the future of virtualization in the delivery of service centric or cloud computing, pointing out the role of virtualization with respect to server, storage, network and application. In addition to this senior panel of technologists, Pete Sonsini from NEA will provide a perspective on the market opportunities for venture investors and entrepreneurs.

    Speakers Bios:

    Raju Bopardikar,CTO, LeftHand Networks, Raju has a strong background in distributed systems and virtualization software, with significant expertise in software development. As Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Raju is advancing LeftHand's technology and contributing to the future vision, positioning and evolution of LeftHand's successful portfolio of SAN solutions. A successful technologist and innovator, the products and solutions Raju developed are serving the needs of many of the world's leading supercomputing, entertainment and high performance networking organizations. For several years, Raju served as a consultant for IBM, Thinking Machines and AT&T Bell Labs where he holds many patents and developed technologies involving high speed networking, distributed file systems and clustering solutions.

    Simon Crosby, CTO Virtualization and Mgmt Division, Citrix. Simon Crosby was founder and CTO of XenSource prior to the acquisition of XenSource by Citrix. Previously, Simon was a principal engineer at Intel where he led strategic research in distributed autonomic computing, platform security and trust. He was the founder of CPlane Inc., a network optimization software vendor, where he held a variety of executive roles. Prior to CPlane, Simon was a tenured faculty member at the University of Cambridge, UK, where he led research on network performance and control, and multimedia operating systems. He is author of over 35 research papers and patents on a number of datacenter and networking topics including security, network and server virtualization, resource optimization and performance. In 2007, Simon was awarded a coveted spot as one of InfoWorld's Top 25 CTOs.

    John Humphreys, Program Vice President,IDC's Enterprise Platform Group where he heads up the Enterprise Virtualization Software program. The program also examines the role of manageability in the emerging virtual environment. Additional areas of focus include the adoption of blade servers, the modularization of the data center along with the automation and virtualization of the data center environment, and the emergence of grid computing in the enterprise.

    Prior to joining IDC, John worked in the energy industry where he combined his geological and geophysical background along with an interest in unconventional exploration opportunities to develop risk profiles, technical and financial models for a wide range of projects, including a division portfolio analysis, strategic analysis related to company positioning, and complex reservoir development programs.

    Bob Quinn,CTO and Founder, 3Leaf Systems. Bob Quinn has more than 20 years of high-tech industry experience. Before 3Leaf, Mr. Quinn was founder and CEO of Network Virtual Systems (NVS), which developed scalable architectures and chips for x86 and Itanium SMP servers. Prior to NVS, he was founder and chairman of iMODL, an Electronic Design Automation (EDA) software company.

    Mr. Quinn has served as chairman of TransEDA, an EDA software company traded on the London Exchange; and has held senior management positions at Unisys, Trilogy, Arix and Exxon. Mr. Quinn received an honors BSEE degree from University College, Cork, Ireland.

    Vishal Sikka, CTO, SAP. Vishal Sikka has been Chief Technology Officer of SAP AG since May 30, 2007. Mr. Sikka is responsible for ensuring a clear and harmonized road map for SAP products to deliver ongoing innovation and long-term value to customers worldwide. He leads SAP AG's forward-thinking efforts around emerging technologies, plays a leading role in the long-term direction of SAP's research efforts and is chartered with mapping SAP's next-generation architecture. Mr. Sikka served as Senior Vice President of architecture and chief software architect at SAP, responsible for the road map and direction of the architecture of SAP's products and infrastructure.

    Peter Sonsini, Partner, NEA. Pete joined NEA in 2005, specializing in software, systems and services companies. His current board memberships include Compiere, Limbo, Rinera, and Teracent and he led NEA’s investment in Xensource. Pete has 10+ years of operating experience in Silicon Valley that spans executive sales, marketing and finance roles. Prior to joining NEA, Pete was on the executive team at VMware where he built the company’s initial strategic alliances and grew annual sales through OEMs from $0 to $40 million in four years. Prior to VMware, Pete was one of the first hires on the business side at Mirapoint, where he ran product management. Pete also served in various sales and marketing positions in Hewlett-Packard’s server division, including Worldwide Product Manager for the mid-range server business.
