Victoria Libschitz: Grid Computing in the Cloud

Cloud Computing is the loudest buzzword in today's IT industry. Is this "disruptive paradigm" ready for my business? How can my business benefit from cloud technologies? This are the questions most CIOs and CTOs often ponder about. Victoria Livschitz, CEO of Grid Dynamics, will discuss about what cloud computing is and is not, the benefits and challenges of moving "into the cloud" along with several real-life cloud computing applications.

Victoria Livschitz is the Founder and CEO of Grid Dynamics Consulting Services. An award-winning entrepreneur and innovator, Ms. Livschitz is an industry authority in the fields of Java, Grid and Cloud Computing for over 15 years.

Prior to founding Grid Dynamics in 2006, Ms. Livschitz served for 10 years at Sun Microsystems, as a Principal Technologist with leadership roles in System Engineering, Professional Services, Product Development and Research. Prior to Sun Microsystems, Mrs. Livschitz worked at Ford Motors as a High Performance Computing Engineer.

Tom Coull: Delivering On-Demand HPC Computing

Penguin Computing just announced its new "Penguin on Demand" (POD)  – a new service that delivers, for the first time, a complete high performance computing (HPC) solution in the cloud. POD extends the concept of cloud computing by making optimized compute resources designed specifically for HPC available on demand. POD is targeted at researchers, scientists and engineers who require surge capacity for time-critical analyses or organizations that need HPC capabilities without the expense and effort required to acquire HPC clusters. Tom Coulls, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Products and Engineering at Penguin, will discuss the new offering, how it differs from standard cloud offerings, and the benefits an on-demand HPC solution delivers to users that need massive amounts of compute resources.

Tom joined Penguin Computing in December 2008 with 22 years of CEO and GM experience in start-up through mid-stage technology companies. Tom has a history of successfully growing or revitalizing self-funded and venture-backed companies, and has successfully sold two high performance computing companies to leading public companies in the CAD and 3D graphics markets. Prior to Penguin Computing, Tom was the CEO of Technology in Learning, REBOL Technologies and Sense8 Corporation. He was also a General Manager for Engineering Animation Inc. (NASDAQ: EAII) from 1997 through 2000. Tom holds both a B.S. and an M.Eng. Degree in Engineering from U.C. Berkeley.

Brian Wolff: vCloud Express, the New On-Demand IaaS Service

Look out Amazon, there's a new kid in the IaaS arena: VMware. VMware announced the release of vCloud Express at last month's VMworld. VCloud Express offers the benefits of on-demand cloud computing based on the leading hypervisor technology in the industry, based on enterprise-grade hardware, networking, and storage. VCloud Express offers users a new alternative to the established IaaS vendors, with competitive pricing and functionality. Brian Wolff of BlueLock, one of only three vCloud Express launch partners in the US, will discuss the new offering, its benefits to users, and use cases particularly well-suited to vCloud Express.

Brian Wolff is VP of Sales and Marketing at BlueLock, where he is responsible for all of the company's go-to-market activities. Prior to joining BlueLock, Brian worked for IMS Health (RX:NYSE), the global leader in market intelligence in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry, where he held positions of increasing responsibility within sales and consulting. At General Systems Design, Inc. Brian served as the director of sales and marketing where he created and implemented an ASP model for its billing software package. He also held positions in sales and sales management with Johnson & Johnson (JNJ:NYSE), where he executed growth initiatives and received numerous accolades for his achievements. Brian holds a B.A. from the University of Michigan and is a licensed private pilot.
