NOTE: OUR MEETING IS AT STANFORD!!
Topic: Migrating Enterprise Apps to the Cloud
Presentation #1: Migrating Java and LAMP Apps to the Cloud (IaaS focussed)
In this presentation Makara co-founder and CEO, Issac Roth will explore both the risks and benefits of moving Java and LAMP applications to the cloud. Issac will explore the technical best practices one should consider during the migration, as well as take an in-depth look at the potential problems
and solutions you may encounter in the process.
Bio: Issac Roth, CEO/Co-founder, Makara
Before founding Makara to solve application management problems for customers moving to cloud and virtualization infrastructures, Issac spent 5 years at Wily Technology, helping to grow the APM leader from a few handfuls of customers through the $375M acquisition by CA, Inc. Issac was a founder or early employee of three venture backed enterprise infrastructure startups that in aggregate raised $70M in funding. With a degree from Stanford University in Multimedia Design &; Technology, he worked as a software engineer in the earlier days of Cisco Systems, and was the fourth employee of the company that became RedHat.
Presentation #2: Migrating Apps to Salesforce.com (PaaS focussed)
The age-old paradox of application development is ";build vs. buy"; Is it faster and more economical to build from the ground up? Or purchase an off-the-shelf product and customize/extend it to meet the enterprise's requirements? In today's emerging cloud ecosystem the paradox is different, but the debate is equally polarized. Instead of build vs. buy, it's ";build vs. migrate."; With the rich cloud platforms available today, should you start from scratch or migrate an existing code base to the cloud? In this presentation, we'll take a look at and debate the advantages and disadvantages of both.
