Business Intelligence SIG: Financial Data Integration empowering BI w/Profitab
Financial Data Integration empowering Business Intelligence with Profitable Decision Making
In this talk we will walk through why there is a chasm between what we see in Business Intelligence data and the data that needs to be there to support time-sensitive business decisions.
Business Intelligence applications typically sit on top of the Enterprise Data Warehouse or Business Intelligence reporting environment. While the underlying relational data may have dynamic feeds from the operational systems and customer transaction systems, no such feeds exist to support the near real time extraction or update of financial data to that same repository. The financial data is trapped in the cube format that enables the complex calculation and analytic capabilities needed to process financial data. Analytic systems, typically multi-dimensional and not relational, remain within Finance departments and separate from the core decision-making process in the lines of business. BI systems, perceived as always having the most current information, are in fact typically missing this time-sensitive financial data, undermining the profitability of real-time business decisions.
