About the Presenters
Michael Kim, Partner, Rustic Canyon Partners
Michael Kim came to us from Accelerator Venture Partners, LLC, a San Francisco-based partnership investing in early-stage technology companies. Formerly an investment banker, Michael was with Morgan Stanley's Technology Merger & Acquisitions Group in Menlo Park. While there, he was directly involved with 27 announced transactions worth over $77 billion for such clients as Hewlett-Packard, Ciena, Seagate, Bay Networks, Netscape and Texas Instruments. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Michael was an associate at The Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City and also worked at IBM in Armonk, NY.
He graduated with honors from Cornell University, received an MS from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service and received an MBA from the Wharton School of Business.
Michael is on the board of directors for Lead21and Junior Achievement of the Bay Area, and is a Trustee of the Asian Art Museum Foundation. He also serves on the Advisory Boards of the Symphonix League of the San Francisco Symphony and Zoo II of the San Francisco Zoo.
Michael served on the Board of Directors for the 2004 SF Swearing In Committee for newly-elected Mayor Gavin Newsom. In March 2004, Michael was appointed by Mayor Newsom as a Trustee of the San Francisco Employee Retirement System, an $11.8 billion pension fund.

Alex Lloyd, Venture Partner, Rustic Canyon Partners
Alexander Lloyd joined Rustic Canyon as a Venture Partner in 2003. Before joining Rustic Canyon, Alexander was founding partner of Accelerator Venture Partners, a San Francisco-based partnership that invests in and consults with early stage technology companies. Alexander has made investments in a broad range of technology startups including Connectify, which was acquired by Kana (Nasdaq:KANA), Vykor, Vivato, and Cloudmark. Prior to founding Accelerator Venture Partners, Alexander was the Business Development Manager in Microsoft's Silicon Valley office responsible for Microsoft's relationships with the West Coast venture capital community. Alexander has also worked as a Product Manager in SGI's workstation division and has held marketing positions at Activision and Apple Computer. Alexander began his career at Goldman Sachs, where he spent three years as a financial analyst.
Alexander received a BA in International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA in Entrepreneurial Management from The Wharton School. He is also on the board of Junior Achievement of the Bay Area and the founder and president of SMAC (San Francisco Media Arts Council).
Bo Brustkern, Associate, Rustic Canyon Partners
Bo Brustkern joined Rustic Canyon as an Associate in June 2000. In his tenure at Rustic Canyon he has helped to enable and support investments involving a breadth of technologies including wireless systems, optical components, semiconductors, storage, information services and semiconductor capital equipment.
Before joining Rustic Canyon, Bo was a founding consultant with Cyrc Capital Ventures, a venture consultancy specializing in addressing the needs of early stage companies. Previously, Bo was with BACE Industries, a private equity investment firm, where he focused on executing M&A transactions for the firm’s platform portfolio companies. Prior to his work in private equity and consulting, Bo was a corporate analyst at Wellsford Residential Property Trust (NYSE: WRP), where he played a central role in managing operational controls and conducting asset acquisitions and divestitures.
Bo received his MBA with distinction at the Anderson School at UCLA, where he was a Deutschman Venture Fellow. He earned his BA at Dartmouth College, where he played Varsity football and A-side rugby.
Tom Cervantez, Founder Golden Gate Angels and Partner, Davis Wright Tremaine LLP
Tom is a Partner in the Corporate and Securities Group of Davis Wright Tremaine LLP in San Francisco. Tom has over 15 years experience working in the securities and finance field, with a focus on helping emerging growth companies, venture funds, and software and hardware computer companies navigate issues concerning securities, capital structure planning, private placements, mergers and acquisitions, venture financing and licensing transactions. Tom has also participated at an operating level at several companies, including a venture fund, boutique investment bank and an ISP. Tom's most recent venture was the formation of Britton Silberman & Cervantez LLP, which was acquired in June of 2000. Tom also founded the Golden Gate Angels investor group in San Francisco, targeting early stage investments in technology, communications and consumer retail ventures. Tom holds a Bachelor's in Business Administration, magna cum laude, from Loyola Marymount University, a JD from Harvard Law School and a MBA from Harvard Business School.
