The third book, "They Made It!", presented by author Angelika Blendstrup, will be on Wednesday, November 19, 2008.

Angelika Blendstrup, Ph.D., will share the secrets learned from interviewing around 40 Silicon Valley executives that MADE IT!

An autographed copy of her book will be given to all attendees.

    Agenda:
    7:30-8:00 Registration, Networking and Food
    8:00-8:45 Discussion
    8:45-9:00 Author Signing and Networking

    Detail:
Great leaders have been the stuff of many business books over the years. However, few books have focused uniquely on foreign-born entrepreneurs and executives, specifically ones living and working in Silicon Valley.

The book, 'They Made It!', is the result of conversations with these foreign-born Silicon Valley entrepreneurs such as Eric Benhamou, Jean-Louis Gassee, Raj Singh, Wu Fu Chen, Suhas Patil, Omid Kordestani, Qi Lu,  Dan Maydan and more, who tell it as it is. Each leader shares a unique, personal story of how s/he came to the US and ultimately made it.

As we all know by now, there is no "secret sauce, no clear road map on how to succeed." But there are a number of "recipes for success" with specific ingredients that if applied, may smooth the path upward. These recipes include addressing how to stand out from the crowd, how to achieve excellence, how to push yourself and be daring.

If you are established in Silicon Valley, or if you are just curious to find out what makes these extraordinary individuals tick, come listen to how these foreign-born professionals think and gain personal insight into the fulfillment of their ambitions and dreams.

    Discussion Topics:
    •    gain insight into the way leaders from different countries and cultures act and think
    •    understand cultural differences and what influences these differences can have
    •    get to know leading entrepreneurs from a more personal, approachable side
    •    hear the individual voices speak about their own development - what did they have to face, what          obstacles did they overcome?

    Author's Bio:

Angelika Blendstrup, Ph.D., is the founder and principal of Blendstrup & Associates. She holds a Ph.D. in Bilingual, Bicultural Education from Stanford University and speaks five languages.

Angelika specializes in individualized, inter-cultural business communication training, accent reduction and presentation skill coaching.

Because of her work with international executives and her role as Co-President of SiliconFrench and L'Executive Cub, she had the idea of interviewing the fascinating foreign leaders who are quite accessible in Silicon Valley.  With the help of her international friends in this community and the help of the executives themselves, she was able to interview more than 45 foreign leaders in 14 months. The edited interviews are presented in the book.

In addition to 'They Made It!', together with an Italian colleague, she co-wrote 'Communicating the American Way', a guide to US business communications. Angelika teaches US business communications skills to international executives in the Silicon Valley as well as classes at Stanford University on topics such as cross -cultural communication, managing virtual teams and the art of interviewing successfully.
