    Presentation Overview

    The Sony PlayStation2 launches in North America on October 26th. With over 74 Million PlayStation (1) consoles world wide, this new console has a great inheritance and a lot to live up to. This session will briefly cover aspects of the PlayStation business before moving on to a technical overview of the PS2 architecture. There will be some demonstrations, both technical and game play to show the PS2’s capabilities followed by a description of the development tools and programming environment. The session will also touch on the Tools and Middleware program for PS2.

    • PlayStation Business Overview (10 min.), including existing PlayStation business, introduction of the PS one, Japanese PlayStation 2 business and US PlayStation 2 launch plans
    • PlayStation 2 Architecture Overview (30 mins), including system components, features and capabilities, performance, and I/O
    • Q+A (10+ mins)
    • Demonstrations (20 mins), including technology demonstration and game demonstration
    • PlayStation 2 Development Environment (20 mins), including linux based development tools and environment, and Microsoft Windows alternative development tools and environment
    • PlayStation 2 Developer Program and Tools and Middleware (15 mins), including the PlayStation 2 developer support program, and an explanation of the tools and middleware program
