    Presentation Overview

This talk will cover tools for debugging .NET programs beyond Visual Studio that apps developers are often not familiar with. Understanding these tools lets you fix a wider range of bugs in more contexts, especially production debugging in the field. We'll look at:

    • The WinDbg debugger and SOS extension,
    • ADPlus,
    • Process Explorer,
    • FileMon and
    • DebugView.

We'll see how to create dump files with ADPlus and analyze them with WinDbg and SOS. Finally, we'll walk through some example crashes and bugs in .NET 1.1 sample programs and diagnose them with these tools.
