Windows SIG: Generics in C#
The Monthly Meeting of the Windows SIG
Juval Löwy, Software Architect and Principal of IDesign
Generics in C#
Generics allow you to define data structures, without committing to actual data types. This results with significant performance boost, and higher quality code, because you get to reuse data processing algorithms without duplicating type-specific code. In concept, Generics are similar to C++ template, but are drastically different in implementation and capabilities. Generics are part of the next release of .NET (code name Whidbey), and this talk provides a preview of this important feature. The talk presents the generic syntax, constrains, and implications on the .NET programming model, and examples of how generics will be combined in the .NET framework and its custom frameworks.
