Business Process Modeling Language
B2B integration is a huge challenge. How do you get processes to talk with one another across the boundaries between customers, trading partners, and suppliers? Come hear one of the leaders in Business Process Management technology talk about the new Business Process Markup Language (BPML) standard.
BPML is designed to enable companies to use a shared set of XML tags to define business processes. It is a standard public interface that makes it possible for businesses to contact one another and assess their behind-the-scenes processes.
For example, "Instead of having to go through an elaborate interconnection of financial systems in order to accept one another's credit, BPML could allow companies to post their credit requirements and give another company's systems a chance to respond to its credit rules without preplanned application connections and alignment" (Charles Babcock, Interactive Week, 4/9/2001).
On June 26th, the Business Process Management Initiative (http://www.BPMI.org) announced the release of BPML 1.0, the first public draft for the 1.0 release of the Business Process Modeling Language. The BPML 1.0 specification takes into account Web Services Flow Language (WSFL) from IBM and XLANG and leverages the Web Service Choreography Interface (WSCI) from BEA Systems, SAP, Sun, and Intalio.
