What lessons can we learn from these hostile environments that are applicable to us in the western world? How can we improve security by adopting some of these lessons?     About The Presenter

    Steve Okay is one of the founders and a Senior Technologist of Inveneo (, an non-profit social enterprise focused on the development and deployment of sustainable computing and communications systems for developing countries around the world. He has been closely involved in the design and development of Inveneo's Solar and Pedal-powered PC and Communications System which has been installed and running in Fort Portal, Uganda since June 2005.

    His involvement with IT For Development (ICT4D) began in 2002 as the technical lead on a wireless VOIP project in rural Laos. Prior to this he worked for 15 years on a wide variety of UNIX/Linux systems for projects involving air traffic control, anti-terrorism planning, feature films, banking and enterprise and mobile systems for companies in the US, Europe and Australia. He has been a frequent invited lecturer/instructor at various ICT4D conferences around the world.
