The goal of the RFID Event is to promote the emerging RFID technology, foster understanding, and build relationships within the industry and the public. The group plans to deliver, within the framework of a Special Interest Group, education, information, and networking via technology domain briefings, seminars, and monthly meetings in Silicon Valley locations. We cover the RFID technology arena from passive to active UWB, from access control to retail apps, and issues from application design to data security, protection, and privacy. Topics include but are not limited to: Passive and active ID tags and their related readers, Location Based Services (LBS), Application Infrastructure (servers and network), Asset control and management, Supply Chain Management (SCM), Warehouse Management System (WMS), Customer Relation Management (CRM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Logistics, Data Mining, Homeland Security related issues, Hardware and software design, including Bluetooth, WiFi, UWB.
Real World RFID Industry Case Study
Ken Choi of QLM Consulting, a leading RFID and Supply Chain Solutions provider, will be showcasing their RFID consulting and business solutions as well as a customer case study outlining their most recent implementations that show how good business practices become best practices. QLM will co-present with one of their key clients, Ballantine Produce, a global leader in providing tree fruit to retail chains throughout world.
David Silva, VP of I.T. at Ballantine Produce, will describe Ballantine's recent deployment of RFID in their food processing plants. David will provide an overview of Ballantine Produce, their business activities and processes enhanced by RFID, explain why Ballantine became an early adopter of RFID, and address specific challenges related to leveraging RFID and Supply Chain data generated at Ballantine's and at their Retail Trading Partners.
David and Ken will also discuss issues that are specific to the perishable industry such as supply chain lead times and spoilage. Attendees can expect to gain valuable insight into the perishables & cold chain industries and will be able to interact with QLM and Ballantine to get their practical questions answered.
Ken Choi - Chief Technical Consultant, QLM Consulting
For the past 19 years, Ken Choi has led IT enabled initiatives in the logistics and information technology industry. Ken is the Chief Technical Consultant at QLM Consulting where he leads QLM's RFID Systems Integration and Solutions Deployment. Prior to joining QLM Consulting, Ken was President & CTO of dataRiver.com, a startup offering a complete transportation solution for global shipping. Ken established and managed a successful computer network consulting firm in Silicon Valley. Ken's clients include Cisco Systems, Sequoia Ventures, DeLoitte & Touche, and PriceWaterhouse. Representative projects are the development of Data Link Switching Protocol (DLSW and APPN), Cisco Systems; technical direction and management of the North American Numbering Plan for telecom industry leaders AT&T and PacBell. His career in computer networks started at Lockheed Research Lab in Palo Alto. Ken graduated from Stanford University.

Prior to joining the produce industry, David held IT positions in the healthcare industry.
