Open Source SIG: Open Source at the Application Layer

  • Monthly Meeting of the New Open Source Software SIG

    Presentation Overview

Open Source at the Application Layer

Over the last few years, Linux, as the embodiment of open source software, has become big business. One reads more and more about open source "moving up the stack" -- that stack being an infrastructure stack, with the operating system at the bottom, and the application perched on top.

Optaros was recently founded to help companies realize the benefits of open source software for business applications. This session will discuss the opportunities and challenges in engaging open source methods, projects, and people for tackling these kinds of applications. How can we translate the success of Open Source in infrastructure into narrower software niches? As we "move further up the stack", what different issues become more significant?
