    Global Challenges in Clean Technology: Insights from the Korean Example

    The International special interest group (SIG) is the international arm of the SDForum, connecting global business and technology communities with Silicon Valley. This is an exceptional opportunity to exchange ideas on the challenges facing clean technology in the global economy with experts from the Valley and leading Korean clean tech as well as energy companies.

    KITECH is a world-level R&D institute that leads manufacturing technology innovation to help Korean technology SMEs compete in the global marketplace. KITECH provides high-tech manufacturing technology development and R&D human resource training as well as establishes close collaborative networking systems among innovative institutes worldwide.

    Dr. Han- Dr. Han is currently Prinicpal Research Scientist for the NanoSurface Technology team at Kitech (Korea Institute of Industrial Technology) and holds a BS in metallurgical engineering from Yonsei University in Korea, an MS from the U. of Washington- Seattle and his PhD in Metallury from the University of Utah. He has held different positions at KITECH in technology development and clean energy for the past ten years. Prior to that, he was a senior research scientist in zero-discharge manufacturing at Battelle Memorial Institute. He has spoken about clean energy and cleaner production technologies across the world and is the author of more than 40 articles on the subjects. He also holds eight related patents.

    Gregory Heibel- Greg is an attorney at Orrick and a member of the Emerging Companies practice group. Mr. Heibel focuses his practice on the representation of rapidly growing public and private technology companies, venture capital firms and other technology investors. He has also worked with Genevest, a venture capital firm in Geneva, Switzerland. He has a BA from UC Berkeley, an MBA from and JD from Cornell University.

    Alex Sousa- Alex Sousa is IP Counsel at Innovalight, an early stage company focused on bringing ultra low-cost solar power modules to the marketplace. Innovalight is harnessing a proprietary silicon-ink process, developed by the company to print thin-film solar power modules. The company was recognized as a 2006 Technology Pioneer winner at the 2006 Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum held in Davos. Prior to becoming an attorney, Mr. Sousa held management positions at Repeater Technologies and Hewlett-Packard. He received a BSME from the United States Military Academy at West Point, an MBA from the University of Michigan and a JD from Santa Clara University.

    Mitchell Zuklie is a partner at Orrick, and a member of the Emerging Companies Group. Mr. Zuklie focuses on the formation, financing and general corporate counseling of technology businesses. Mr. Zuklie has a deep knowledge of the clean technology sector and has completed numerous venture capital financings, as well as public offerings, acquisitions and technology licensing transactions. Clients include Accelergy, Advent Solar and Calient Networks . He has been named one of the Best Lawyers in America and holds a BA from Bowdoin College, a JD from UC Berkeley.
