    Citing Kiva: "Microfinance is the supply of loans, savings, and other basic financial services to the poor." (CGAP) As the financial services of microfinance usually involve small amounts of money, small loans, small savings etc. The term "microfinance" helps to differentiate these services from those which formal banks provide.

    Matt Flannery, Co-Founder & CEO, Kiva    
    Matt began developing with his wife Jessica in late 2004 as a side-project with while working as a computer programmer at TiVo, Inc. In December 2005 Matt left his job to devote himself to full-time. As CEO, Matt has led's growth from a pilot project to an established online service with partnerships across the globe and millions in dollars loaned to low income entrepreneurs. Matt is a Draper Richards Fellow and a featured blogger on the Skoll

    Ashwini Narayanan,  Head of Product Management, Microplace
    Ashwini heads product strategy for MicroPlace and is responsible for building out MicroPlace's platform and services. She has over 10 years of experience in designing, building and managing products in the e-commerce and payment industries. Before joining MicroPlace, Ashwini worked at PayPal as Director of Financial Services for North America. Prior to that, Ashwini was responsible for product strategy as Sr. Director of Product for CyberSource and Product Unit Manager ( at InfoSpace. Ashwini has an undergraduate degree in Physics, a diploma in computer science and an MBA from the Monterey Institute of International Studies.

    Jason Shen, Gumball Capital, Co-Founder and Executive Director
    Jason initiated Gumball Capital in March 2007, while competing in an entrepreneurial competition at Stanford University.  Since Fall 2007 he has worked to develop the Stanford Chapter of the organization, and has since raised over $1200 in microcredit loans through a campus-wide competition.  Jason is currently pursuing a co-terminal masters in Biology at Stanford University, and is writing an honors thesis on the ethics of organ transplantation.
    Gumball Capital is a nonprofit that inspires entrepreneurship for social impact. The organization sponsors a one-week microfinance-benefit competition, the Gumball Challenge, where students create value from kits of $27 and 27 gumballs. After the competition, students channel any revenue they generate through, and in turn to entrepreneurs in developing countries.  The process empowers students to realize their entrepreneurial potential, while at the same time empower entrepreneurs all over the world.
