    Making the leap from an application to a platform business

    For May, the focus is on identifying and resolving the strategic marketing challenges for technology companies as they transition from a single application business to an ecosystem including multiple applications, multiple distribution channels. In the consumer space, companies who have successfully made this transition are Google, Yahoo, ebay. In the enterprise space, appears to be well on its way to doing this.

    A panel of business leaders and technologists will discuss the real challenges in making this transition.

    Presenter's Bios:

    Robert J. Jurkowski, CEO of Intacct Corporation

    Robert is a 25 years software industry veteran, is a co-founder of IBM’s Software as a Service Partner Council, co-author of Summit Strategies’ “The Ten Pillars of Software as a Service,” and board member of SIIA Software Division. Since taking the helm in mid-2004, Mr. Jurkowski has helped Intacct report seven consecutive quarters of revenue growth, double the workforce and sign its 2,000th customer. Previously, he served as an executive at Apriso, Silicon Energy, RightWorks, Aurum Software, Dun & Bradstreet Software, Oracle and ADP.

    Dave Nielsen, Director of Developer Programs, StrikeIron Inc.

    Dave has over 13 years experience working with developers and driving top-notch programs to meet their needs. As Director of StrikeIron Developer Programs, Dave works with the developer community to lead StrikeIron into additional channels for sources of customers and revenue . Prior to StrikeIron, Dave managed the PayPal Developer Network for PayPal, an eBay company. Dave also serves as co-chair of the SDForum Web Services SIG. Since. He is also the author of PayPal Hacks, which shows how to find and build the right tools for using PayPal to sell products and services online.

    Gordon Ritter, Founder and General Partner of Emergence Capital

    Gordon has spent over 15 years building companies which pioneered new markets including embedded web-based interfaces, server appliances, "On Demand" services for the SMB market and web-native application development. He currently sits on the boards of Ketera Technologies and MarketingGenius. Prior to founding Emergence, Gordon was co-Founder of Software As Service, a Web services platform company, and Whistle Communications, a pioneering Internet appliance and services platform for small and medium-sized businesses. Gordon also served as Vice President of the $3 billion IBM Global Small Business division, created as a result of IBM's acquisition of his company, Whistle Communications in 1999.

    Tara Ryan, VP of Marketing Ketera Technologies

    As Vice President of Marketing for Ketera, Tara is responsible for all marketing activities. Tara brings over 15 years of experience in global marketing for technology businesses. Prior to Ketera, Ryan was SVP of NetSuite, where she provided branding, pricing, strategy and all marketing for NetSuite. She joined NetSuite from Deloitte Consulting and prior to that she held senior executive positions at Commerce One, Network Associates, and Oracle Corporation. Ms. Ryan holds a BA, History from the University of California at Los Angeles.

    Michael Topolovac , CEO of Arena Solutions

    Michael co-founded Arena Solutions with Eric Larkin, CTO, in 2000 with the vision of providing cost-effective, on-demand product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions to manufacturers of all sizes and their global supply chains. Prior to co-founding Arena, Michael founded and served for ten years as chief executive officer of Light & Motion Industries (LMI), a leading manufacturer of underwater video, photo and lighting products for consumer markets. As CEO of LMI, Michael experienced the pain of having to use expensive, complex enterprise software to run the product development arm of the business. This personal frustration was the motivation and inspiration behind him developing a custom PLM application that has run LMI’s operations for the past ten years. This system became the prototype for the Arena PLM product.
