Packaging Yourself for a New Position: Resume - Your Mktg Tool

  • Getting the "right" company to see your talents and make you an offer you can't refuse takes successful self-packaging even in the best of times. We are not in the best of times. A few will get a chance to get detailed feedback on their resume.

Patti Wilson, (Bio), Founder, The Career Company

In a tough job market, packaging yourself well on paper shortens your job search, improves your ability to "sell" yourself in-person and helps direct an interview into an offer. This workshop helps you turn your resume into an effective marketing tool that makes it easy for employers to see how you can contribute to their bottom line. In a jam-packed 3 hours we will cover all of the following and more!

    • Find out the tips and techniques to brand and position yourself on paper
    • Learn how to "write-around" time gaps, dated experience, short-term jobs and other typical resume problems.
    • Find out how to use the "right" terminology to translate your experience in another industry or business sector.
    • See how using a resume "user interface" for page layout makes for an easier online and offline read.
    • Learn how to write and deliver an effective 60 second infomercial about yourself.
    • Find out how to use your resume to coach your references to sell you
    • Learn how to use your resumes during an interview, with recruiters and with networking contacts.

This workshop is designed to show you how to take a decent resume and really make it stand out in a crowd and then how to use it as marketing tool. Come prepared for fun and creative writing!

If you are willing to have it critiqued as part of the workshop, bring a copy of your chronologically (not functionally!) written resume on an overhead transparency,(note it probably will not be possible to do this for everyone attending).
