Picture this: An executive leaning back in his chair with his fingers crossed behind his head and his feet up on his desk. What's he doing? In his mind, the best he can – sitting around, hoping his product works the way customers want it to work. Unfortunately, too many company executives have a view that this is all one can do. They leave success or failure of products to chance, betting the future of their companies on things they could control if they only knew how or had the people who knew how.
It doesn't have to be this way. Great companies, "deliver good stuff, on time…repeatedly!" and it doesn’t come without work and taking advantage of the experience of those who have gone before and learned the lessons required.

Steve Smith, Program Director and Senior Process Consultant, QualityLogic, Inc. Steve has over 30 years experience in software development and Quality Assurance with companies such as IBM and Mentor Graphics. Steve joined QualityLogic in April of 2000 and has been a key contributor to building the QualityLogic Professional Services Practice and the QualityLogic Quality Assessment Process.
Steve's career at IBM spanned several departments. He began his career as an Engineer evaluating IBM's emerging circuit and packaging technologies, and then quality testing IBM's then fastest computer, the Model 195. Lastly, he was the Manager of Mission Test for the Physical Design Mission and was responsible for directing the Quality Assurance and Quality Control requirements of the mission. Steve then spent most of the 80's and the 90's at Mentor Graphics, first as the Manager and then the Director of Systems Engineering Support in the Board Systems Division. His last position was as the Director of Engineering for the Division, where he mentored his division to ISO9001 Certification.
At QualityLogic Steve is pursuing his goal of helping the software industry move from an artistic approach in developing software towards a scientific approach but still respecting the art. In his role at QualityLogic he works as a member of the Professional Services team conducting quality assessments and working with customers (internal and external) to improve their product development and quality processes.
