Emerging Tech SIG: Dojo Toolkit

  • The Monthly Meeting of the Emerging Technology SIG

    Presentation Overview

As the market for web applications has matured, users have come to expect ever more out of the experiences delivered by the web apps they now rely on for everything from email to banking. But today's application authors and designers have started to hit a wall with the types of interaction experiences that can be delivered using static HTML and server-side page generation. The new landscape for building compelling internet applications requires something more. The Dojo Toolkit is a JavaScript library that is being developed expressly to make it easier for more people to easily use the capabilities of modern web browsers, and do it in ways that don't destroy the application experience for those without the benefit of DHTML and Javascript.

In this talk, Alex Russell will outline the challenges involved in building "Web 2.0" and "Ajax" style applications, how Dojo can help make constructing these applications easier, and discuss techniques that increase developer productivity when working with these new tools.

    About the Presenter

Alex Russell is the project lead for the Dojo Toolkit, an Open Source JavaScript library that is making it easier and faster for web developers to build responsive web UIs. Before starting the Dojo Project in 2004, Alex was the lead developer for netWindows (an early DHTMl toolkit) and editor of the OWASP Guide to Building Secure Web Applications.

Alex is a Senior Software Engineer at JotSpot, a Palo Alto based startup that is helping people collect, share, and find information they didn't know they already had.
