Two Disruptive Trends Come to Business Intelligence: Open Source and SaaS

Business Intelligence solutions have traditionally been deployed by enterprises as suites of products from a single vendor. Getting products from different vendors to works together is extremely difficult, and even trying to get them to work with your own application is a challenge. Two recent trends in how software is built, Open Source and Software as a Service, are poised to change this, forcing Business Intelligence products to be built in a more modular fashion, work together, and work with applications you develop.

This talk will start a brief overview of open source and SaaS and a discussion of the ways they are complimentary and the ways they are different. The majority of the talk will focus on BI related open source projects, available BI services, and the overlap between the two. The major emphasis will be on how developers can take advantage of these projects and services to add BI capabilities to their own applications.
