Customer Value: The New Nexus of Information Systems
The first phase of e-business helped companies become more efficient through e-business automation. However, as business strategy guru Gary Hamel has noted, this efficiency can have a dark side: Companies engage in a “race to the bottom” that can ultimately devalue customer relationships. To survive this deflationary effect, businesses are striving to find ways of enhancing the value of goods and services they deliver to customers. How are information systems evolving to respond to this challenge? How are companies using software solutions to reorient their employees’ priorities?
This talk will offer a perspective on how different strains of software solutions are evolving toward strategic business applications that will enable efficient organizations to become intelligent as well. The approach will not be from a deep technical perspective, but rather from an objective journalist’s position, watching how the big and not-so-big software providers and their customers are adjusting to a new focal point for IT opportunities.
