The Convergence of the Internet of Things & Energy Efficiency
ONLINE REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED. Walk-ins welcome Walk-in registration - additional $10 at the door.
The internet of things is creating a whole new set of home control/automation technologies that will overlap with utility sponsored energy efficiency efforts. A bunch of new gear is about to hit store shelves that will change how all this works and the protocols that drive it. There are implications for consumers, utilities, and efficiency companies. Join us for a fireside chat with Eric Miller of SCVsoft and Elisabeth Boonin of Opower!
Some key questions:
-AMI vs wifi networks for load control and home control
-Where will customers buy the stuff that controls their home and sets comfort in the future? Retail, utility provided? Will they converge the way they have with other energy efficiency?
-What role will standards play in defining the industry once retail devices and scales take over?

Elisabeth Boonin, Director of Engineering, Devices, and Real Time Services for Opower
Elisabeth “Boon” Boonin is the Director of Engineering for Devices and Real-time Services at Opower, a SaaS company that partners with utility providers to promote energy efficiency. Her team develops mobile apps and cloud analytics that connect with wifi-enabled thermostats. Opower’s relationship with utility companies allows their thermostat solution to combine smart meter data with in-home live feeds and local weather to produce not only an easy-to-use programmable thermostat offering, but personalized insight into energy consumption and building thermodynamics.
Prior to Opower, Boon led engineering and product teams for several startups including Recurve, a San Francisco-based company focused on home efficiency. In the distant past, she managed cross-functional product teams at Microsoft and made a name for herself as a rebel by pioneering crazy new software techniques like Scrum and pair programming. A self-avowed gadget freak, her home is filled with half completed Arduino projects, soldering equipment, and more remote controls than remote-controllable devices. She holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mathematics.
