Engineering Leadership SIG - Product Management is Not Optional

  • Product Management is Not Optional

    Rich Mironov

The focus of product management is doing the right things; the focus of engineering is doing those things right.   Together, we're responsible for defining and building products that customers love and pay for.

Missing or mis-aligned product management (product ownership) can manifest itself through high interrupt rates, unstable backlogs, incomplete user stories/requirements, and poor team understanding of customer problems.  Or building and shipping underwhelming products.

We'll map out the essentials of tech product management, identify engineering-side symptoms of weak product processes, talk about why roadmaps/backlogs are so politically complex, and find ways for all of us to collaborate more closely.

    About the Speaker:

Since 2006, he’s consulted/mentored product teams at more than 75 large and small technology companies. He wrote “The Art of Product Management,” and has been blogging about products since 2001. He founded the first Product Camps, chaired the first product owner/manager tracks at the annual Agile conference, and speaks/teaches widely on product strategy, agile, entrepreneurship and product management organizations.
