Dedicated to Entrepreneurs and Industry Professionals Since 1983
SVForum has been the hub of the Silicon Valley software community since the Software Entrepreneurs Forum (SEF) was founded in 1983. Started as a volunteer group of software entrepreneurs and developers who wanted to help each other and advance the software industry, the organization grew to more than 1000 members, meeting regularly for monthly dinners and special interest groups.
In 1992, SEF helped to establish the Center for Software Development (CSD), the world’s most comprehensive publicly available testing laboratory for software developers and entrepreneurs. Initially established as a public-private partnership with the City of San Jose, Novell, Inc. and the San Jose Redevelopment Agency, this non-profit organization was designed to enhance local economic growth.
As technology advanced, the demand for testing labs was surpassed by entrepreneurs’ desire to get connected and learn how to grow a technology-related business, so CSD shifted its focus from labs to educational seminars and events. These changes attracted significant numbers of new members and sponsors, and CSD became a focal point for Bay Area software and Internet entrepreneurs with success stories such as Calico Commerce, Hotmail and Liquid Audio.
In 1998, CSD and SEF (then called the Software Forum) merged to create a one-stop shop for entrepreneurs and industry professionals in the San Francisco Bay Area, and changed its name to the Software Development Forum.
In June of 2011, the organization proudly unveiled its new name, SVForum (Silicon Valley Forum). The new name and motto: “Connect. Engage. Excel” more accurately represents the essence and mission of the organization. With sponsorship from many leading technology companies and venture capital firms, SVForum not only offers seminars and special interest groups on key business and technical topics, it also provides entrepreneurs with the opportunity to meet with venture capitalists, angel investors, coaches and attorneys.
The Silicon Valley Academy of Startup Entrepreneurs (SVASE) and its members joined forces with SVForum in January 2012, making SVForum the largest not-for-profit organization for technologists and entrepreneurs in the San Francisco Bay Area. With over 200 events held annually, SVForum is the best way for entrepreneurs and industry professionals to get educated and get connected. SVForum serves the entire footprint of the technology, venture capital, and startup industries – including clean tech, software, internet, life sciences, and mobile.
